Healthy Monday Tip: Overhaul the Fridge

kitchen refrigeratorHave you done your spring cleaning??? If you're trying to lose weight, the most important room to overhaul is the kitchen.? If you prep your cooking space properly, you're more likely to make good food choices, eat proper food portions and get the nutrients you need to build muscle and maintain a healthy metabolism.? The best way to start is by cleaning out your refrigerator.

Refrigerator Foods to Dump

There is a single category of foods that can ruin an otherwise healthy diet: condiments.? As you clean out your refrigerator, pay special attention to those shelves in the door that are often stocked with high calorie, high fat sauces and dressings.? For example, do you know how many calories are in Ranch salad dressing or ketchup?? In many cases, these condiments add more calories to your meal than you realize.

Refrigerator Foods to Keep

Focus on foods that provide fullness and satisfaction during meals and snack time.? Stock your refrigerator shelves with chopped veggies that are easy to grab in a hurry.? Hard boiled eggs are another great option (toss the yolk and fill the middle with homemade hummus if cholesterol is a concern).?? Deli meats, like ham,? are great for sandwiches and omelets, but compare brands to find a few that are lower in sodium.? And how often do you have fresh fish in the refrigerator??? Try to eat at least one meal each week that includes fish as the main ingredient.? These healthy sources of fat will help you slim down and maintain good health.

Cleaning out your refrigerator can be a daunting task, especially if it's been a while since the last cleaning.? But it's worth the effort if you're trying to lose weight.? So grab the yellow gloves and start scrubbing!
